I don't notice any diference, it's always been like that for me.. i think , i'm running Windows XP and Firefox so maybe it's cuz of that...

It's the opposite for me. I just tried it in firefox and it still has the old style of having the options on the left ;)

There is no difference for me, Chrome, Firefox both look the same, and both look nothing like your image.
I think this only applies for Wide resolutions.
But meh..

I have had this resolution for the last three years... so it's something different for sure!

Maybe, just like the previous feature of showing additional information like birth, spouse, films, etc of a person in the web-search-mode, this too is just beta and being rolled out if particular conditions are being met, be it language settings, country, browser or logged in account.

Mine is still on the left, but I think I like it more there anyway. Plenty of space for pictures anyway plus if I need to customize my search results I can do it easily with the sidebar
