Those of you who turn their artworks into wallpapers, is it necessary to follow the size of standard desktop resolutions or can round figures be used?

Eg, many artists who release wallpaper editions of their art on DeviantART use pixel width like 1920px. Won't it be just easier to cater to the max population by using 3000px or 2000px? Especially in this age when OSes can 'fill' or 'fit' or 'zoom' the wallpapers?

Oh god no! Don't become one of them! Make a simple 1920x1080 wall, instead of those random 2345x1234 sizes whaaa?!
If you want your wallpaper to have some popularity that is...

That's what I am asking - 1920x1080 is 16:9 ratio, so what's wrong in having 2000x1125 which is also 16:9? Because here, your original artwork might have been of a much bigger resolution (in the case of professionals) but if you just put in a round figure for the width, your software would automatically give the height as per the ratio.

And how does resolution affect the popularity as long as it's not insanely small?

Also, tmorrow there will be a bigger resolution than 1920 that becomes the standard so doesn't your wallpaper become future-proof even if you go by a round figure width of 2000px?

I agree with you sort of, but what Epic Man ... Philip was saying about popularity only applies on wallbase as you can search by resolution, if your wallpaper is some unusual size then it wont show up on those searches meaning less people will see it.
